The Christ Hospital Health Network Contributed to Community “MAGIC”

What started as a 2017 task force by The Christ Hospital grew into “MAGIC”—Mt. Auburn Gardens & Initiative Collaboration—a collective that repurposes green spaces and coordinates production, school, and community gardens in Mt. Auburn. MAGIC's power comes from its members, including The Christ Hospital Health Network, The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and many community organizations. Led by The Christ Hospital Health Network's R. Alan Wight, Ph.D., Christ College Assistant Professor of Health Sciences, MAGIC establishes gardens for food production, provides access to affordable healthy foods, and unites volunteers in a neighborhood teaming effort. Produce is donated to LaSoupe, Taft Elementary, and The Christ Hospital Health Network's food pantries. Community engagement efforts include educational workdays and partnering with established neighborhood events, such as Mt. Auburn Day and the block party. The Christ Hospital Health Network's volunteers helped to install a Food Forest Pocket Park, orchards, and activated five sites in Mt. Auburn. The Christ Hospital Health Network will continue its support of MAGIC financially to ensure the gardens and park will flourish for many years to come.
